I love this idea of giving flowers to neighbors. How about, instead of running after ringing the bell, staying to chat. Pick a neighbor whom you haven't met or don't know that well and ask if he or she wants to participate in getting a block party together for National Night Out this year, or just an informal neighborhood gathering any time. This is a good opportunity to get to know your neighbors.
