Gardenshare

Got more zucchini than you can possibly use? Want to meet up with neighbors who share your passion for gardening? Thinning out your flower beds and want to find new homes for all those iris? Got space for a garden and looking for someone to plant and maintain some veggies in exchange for a share of the crop? Want to garden but no place to plant one--willing to share in exchange for use of a neighbors plot?

We haven't been able to identify a suitable location for a "Community Garden" in North Tabor yet but why can't we generate and coordinate lots of small shared gardens throughout the neighborhood. We have lots of wide strips along many of our streets that could be turned into cooperative garden plots--perhaps adjacent homeowners would provide access to water in exchange for a share of the produce or cut flowers.

We could have tours of North Tabor gardens. There is a lot that can be done at a neighborhood level if neighbors will just cooperate to share their talents.

All-

I am a Portland Police Lieutenant in charge of the Grand Floral Parade this year. I am trying something very different this year by decreasing the number of sworn police officers working the parade from 266 to about 80. In order to accomplish this, I am looking to replace a number of positions previously filled by officers with citizen volunteers from the community.
