We will again have our Resale Area, where “Someone else’s gently used; no longer desired item, is another’s treasure,” ready for you to come and find that item that you were so hoping to find. And we will again coordinate with Green Century to offer recycling for used electronics, Portland Disposal and Recycling for recycling of scrap metals, and McFarlane’s Bark for recycling large wood pieces (not brush or debris).
As part of the Reuse Pilot there will also be a reuse collection station involving local non-profits to accept reusable materials. Community Warehouse, Habitat ReStore, Community Cycling Center, and SE Tool Library, and other reuse organizations will be collecting reusable items. The Oregon Chapter of the Reuse Alliance has surveyed neighborhood cleanup coordinators and discussed adding reuse collection to neighborhood cleanup events in order to learn more about cleanups across the Portland area and the Reuse Pilot is part of understanding how reuse options are best implemented at Cleanups.
Will there be collection of Household Hazardous Waste
Unfortunately not.
Here’s one nearby hazardous waste collection event:
June 21, 9am-2pm
David Douglas High School
1001 SE 135th Ave.
Portland, OR 97233
Otherwise check with Metro: 503-234-3000
This event has been the primary source of funds for NTNA for many years and last year raised ~$2000 that was contributed to the mural at 47th and Burnside. There is a great amount of work done before, during and after the event so I hope neighbors will step up to help Moonrose out with this event. Candice Jordan, past co-chair of this event for several past clean-ups.
What is an “annual clean-up”?
Basically the city provides some expense reimbursements to neighborhoods and Metro waives some fees so that neighbors can bring items they need to dispose of to a neighborhood location and pay less than they would at the dump. Our neighborhood together with Mt Tabor has made an extensive effort to reduce the amount of material ending up at the landfill by organizing and coordinating recycle and reuse opportunities as part of our cleanup.
You can see stories and photos from past cleanups by checking out the archival copies of the North Tabor News (Jan-Jun issues past years) at http://www.northtabor.org. Last year’s cleanup raised ~$2000 that was dedicated to our mural at 47th and Burnside and an equal amount to Mt Tabor NA.
