COMMITTEE REPORTS

Treasurer’s  Report:  Robert states that no transactions have occurred since last month, The treasurer is back in town…Robert will connect with her to see if she wants to continue with these duties…he will handle the checkbook for next couple months.

Land Use Report:  Robert states that he is not aware of anything coming up since last month discussion.

SEUL  Liaison:  No report

Community Connections Committee:  Robert reports that Center Commons/Center N.A. have been approved for the Community Vision Grant.   The grant totals $6500 with an additional $1000 from Center Neighborhood Association.  The three planned events are aimed at attracting the new Center Commons residents, the immigrant community and older neighborhood residents as well.  The first event is planned for June 17 for the residents of Center Commons.  Further planning for the Transit Area Survey as well as the Block Party for all Center Neighbors on August 1 (National Night Out) will be discussed at the Center N.A. May meeting.

The City of Portland will train people on how the grant is to be administered and several folks from Center will attend the orientation and training sessions.  While the City will provide most of the survey questions, Center neighbors may also want to come up with some of our own.

Transportation Committee:  No report

Neighborhood Clean-up:  John asked for volunteers to contact him regarding the clean-up on  May 20th as well as with assistance with door hangers.  There is an article in the upcoming newsletters announcing this event.   Door hangers should be out two weeks prior to event.

Newsletter Report:  Robert reports we have a couple of ads to go in the upcoming Spring Newsletter. .  David Delk has received some submissions and will go ahead with the newsletter layout and printing.  Cameron shared  info about mailing costs  and will follow-up on this with Barry and David.

We also need to plan for a special edition in July to attract people to the Community Vision events and help with the survey

Neighborhood Updates:  Robert reports that Fred Meyer’s (Kroger’s) Dave Gibson district manager of the Glisan store will look into the “stair concern”  He stated that a  major rebuild of the store is scheduled for 2007.  Robert asked if the neighborhood could comment if and when they do the redesign, e.g. survey the neighbors who live near there.

Bert reports that the Glisan Fred Meyer has brought on more security and will try to keep people moving along on the stairs.  Security seems to have a higher priority.  Garbage is low priority.  Neighbors wonder if they will spruce up the parking lot during the remodel.

Judy shared concerns from neighbors living near the Providence Hospital construction site and parking garage.  It seems the lighting of the “boom” and the lighted of the new parking garage are very bright out in the neighborhood.  Judy asks if Robert will address the “standing committee” regarding the Good Neighbor Agreement and that perhaps something as simple as mesh screens on the lights would dim them a bit.

Center Neighborhood Website:  DyLynn has been in slow contact with David Pool at News4Neighbors.  She is awaiting his instructions on how to post to the bulletin board and will post information and activities ASAP.
