Minutes of the Center Neighborhood Board Meeting
June 20, 2006 7pm
Shogren House
Board Members Present: John Rusoff, Robert Jordan, Shirley Nacoste, Sean Besso, Cameron Clemens, Marsha Hahn. Barry Bradie, Judy Kennedy, Don McElmurry, Nana Nash
Introductions – 7 PM
Treasury report – Robert: The gross collection from the Cleanup was $2010. This is before hauling/dump fees. Checking account balance is now roughly $2340 (including Cleanup deposit), money market $5070.
Land Use – Barry: likely street parking situation at 47th & Burnside. No application has yet been filed, during this past month there was email discussion about distributing flyers to neighbors in the vicinity of the site. Do flyers after application is filed and public comment window begins.
53rd and Couch: Barry gives some background about this proposed 8-unit development, same as was proposed last year and rejected because of inadequate tree mitigation.
Rod Merrick, the project architect and official Applicant, is present to discuss the proposal and answer questions. Another representative (one of the site owners?) says that about 4 parking spaces will be lost from the lot of the apt complex to the south (owned by the same people). The dumpsters will be moved, resulting in reduction of greenspace.
Construction access will be from Couch St. Staging will be on property along Couch side.
Likely buyers of the units are families; 1700-1800 sq ft; price likely high $300s; construction to last about 1 year.
Can the owner provide a hotline to report construction problems? (excessive noise, off hours, etc) Can the spaces between driveways be made legal parking spaces?
SEUL Board – Shirley: lots of changes at SEUL. Budget crunch, staff is being downsized. Funding is about to expire (and not be continued) for Bridgette’s position, Community Organizer spot #1. Land Use planner will be cut to half-time as of August 1.
Fundraising is a priority, looking to add board members w/ experience in this area.
Wrote a letter asking for additional resources for neighborhood services.
The Diversity and Representation committee met last month and assisted with the Center Commons event.
Connections/Transportation This week’s mtg postponed.
Richard Glenn would like to be the neighborhood representative for the 60th Avenue Station Area planning project. Approved.
Visioning Grant There were about 150 attendees at the picnic from the Village unit, a definite success. Lots of kids, women, and seniors. Got the questionnaires filled out!
Robert is gone for part of July; Nana will spearhead the remaining efforts for the August 1 event at Shogren House. DyLynn will help too, would like a couple more people.
We’ll publish a special newsletter to publicize the event and include the Visioning questionnaire; can use grant money to help print and mail it.
Misc
Robert wrote 2 letters on behalf of CNA: Opposing that neighborhood association board members register as lobbyists; in support of the proposed Sullivan’s Gulch bike trail.
