Minutes of the Center Neighborhood Board Meeting
July 18, 2006 7pm
Shogren House
Board Members Present: DyLynn Robertson, Cameron Clemens, Robert Jordan, Barry Bradie, Don McElmurry, Nana Nash, Shirley Nacoste
Other attendees: Martha Westgate, John Filitano (PPD), Steve Hoyt (SEUL), Kerri Hill, Augusta Hayter, Patricia Hasenyager
Introductions – 7 PM
Action: May and June minutes are approved
Treasury report – We’re updating the 4 signatories on the account – removing Theresa, adding DyLynn. Balances are roughly the same as last month.
Land Use – Barry: 53rd and Couch: I submitted a letter on our behalf stating that we firmly believe that tree #4 (the last remaining tree in question) is not in the right-of-way per the zoning codes and is not exempt from mitigation.
47th and Burnside: the owner/developer submitted a land use review for a height adjustment but I haven’t received an official notice from the city. Need to follow up. Is the comment window clock ticking?
Officer John Filitano, PPD — John comments that he’s heard a rumor that a land swap is being negotiated. Not a lot of calls recently. Juveniles were arrested at a chop shop on 63rd south of Willow.
Nana reports drug dealing, aggressive panhandling, and smoking at the 60th Ave MAX station in the mornings. TriMet has an undercover program, some of the people responsible for these troubles have been pushed farther out from the city center.
There have been lots of burglaries in Laurelhurst, not committed by kids.
A photo van to ticket speeders will be on 47th, on Belmont.
A neighbor reports on the bad attitude of the people who answer the non-emergency police calls.
Two attendees report that they just watched someone injured in an accident wait 13 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.
SEUL Board – Shirley: a slow month at SEUL, no quorum at the meeting so no business conducted. Katherine Anderson, ONI Crime Prevention Coordinator, wants to know if Crime Prevention should be present at the National Night Out event. If she would like to staff a table or provide materials, sure.
Connections/Transportation Nana – Augusta has coordinated to run a shuttle from the Center Commons senior center for the National Night Out event.
Misc
Robert received a “thanks for your input” in response to his letter voicing our support for the proposed Sullivan’s Gulch bike trail.
National Night Out planning
We’ll consider the National Night Out event to be our August meeting. This will probably push the Fall General Meeting out a month to November.
We still have $3000 to spend. $500 to Shogren House (their cost to host), paying Cary the intern; hire one parking assistant; $385 in postage for the mailing; $500 for Melao; $100 for a salsa instructor.
Asking for donations and/or price reductions from local restaurants. Should be able to spend $500-600 on food.
City Repair T-Horse: need to find a place that allows vehicles to pass through the driveway
Signage: set up 8 sandwich boards directing people here on the night of the event.
Tables: confirmed that we can use Shogren House tables
Should have an easel on which we ask people to write their vision for Center
Let’s not pay a photographer
Meeting adjourned 8pm
Next ‘regular’ meeting September 19th
