This just in from our PR connection at Providence Portland Medical Center:
The sidewalk that borders the west side of Providence Portland Medical Center campus along 47th Street is closed to foot traffic beginning Monday, Oct. 7 through the end of October. During that time crews will remove and replace five to seven trees. The root systems in these trees are tearing up portions of the sidewalk and street making it unsafe for foot traffic. The replacement trees that will be planted were selected to minimize damage in the future. Crews also will be repairing uneven and damaged sections of the sidewalk on 47th Street over the next few weeks. While the sidewalks will be closed to foot traffic, the ambulance entrance to the Emergency Department, the hospital entrance on 47th Street, Emilie Gamelin Way and the service road on the north end of the campus will remain open. The project should be complete by end of October, but is weather dependent.
