Instead of a land use meeting this month, NTNA’s land use co-chairs will be attending a meeting on Tuesday, March 7, 6-8pm, at 9955 NE Glisan, regarding the city’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability’s new “Better Housing by Design” project. Anyone who is interested is invited to participate in discussion of design standards for new multi-family housing in Portland. This is the first of five meetings on the project, which aims to improve multi-family housing design and increase bike and pedestrian connections in higher density areas. Since much of North Tabor will be zoned as multi-family zones (R3, R2, R1 and RH) in the new Comprehensive Plan going into effect Jan. 1, 2018, this project and these meetings on development and design standards for multi-family zones is of particular importance to our neighborhood. Anyone who is interested in learning and participating is encouraged to attend.
The first Better Housing by Design Stakeholder working group meeting is Tuesday, March 7, 6-8pm at 9955 NE Glisan, the Ride Connection Office. This meeting will focus on East Portland design and development issues and citywide amenity bonuses. (North Tabor is considered inner Portland, so part of the meeting will be focused on neighborhoods with larger blocks past I-205.)
The second work group meeting is scheduled Thursday, March 23, 6-8pm, at 4815 NE 7th Avenue, the office of Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods. This meeting will focus on outdoor spaces and building scale.
The third work group meeting scheduled Thursday, April 6, 6-8pm, at 8114 SE Division, the Jade/APANO multicultural space. This meeting will focus on East Portland street and pedestrian connectivity and the Jade District plan and development options.
The fourth work group meeting is scheduled Wednesday, April 19, 6-8pm at 4815 NE 7th Avenue, the office of Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods. This meeting will focus on street frontage design and inner Portland development options.
The fifth work group meeting is scheduled Wednesday, May 3, 6-8pm, at 16126 SE Stark Street, the Rosewood Initiative Space. Discussion topics: Eastern Portland street and pedestrian connectivity and Rosewood/Glenfair street plan and development options.
The sixth meeting is a public workshop on code concepts scheduled Saturday, June 3, 10am-12noon, location to be determined. This meeting will be an opportunity to learn about and provide input on multi-family design at the code concept stage.
Materials from these meetings will be posted on the city’s web site for the project and anyone may submit written testimony.
